Terms of Use
These terms explain what you can expect from SpendMath and what we ask of you. We’ve kept them short and in plain English.
The short version
- It’s free for personal household budgeting. No account needed.
- It’s an estimate, not advice. Check important decisions with a qualified professional.
- Your numbers are yours. They stay in your browser, so keep a backup if they matter to you.
- Please use it fairly. Don’t copy the site, attack it or scrape it.
1. Agreeing to these terms
By using the SpendMath website and calculator (“the site”, “we”, “us”), you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
2. What the tool is
The site is a free budgeting calculator and money guide for personal, household use. It helps you see where your money goes, try ideas for spending less and estimate how savings, goals and debts could change over time. It runs in your web browser and doesn’t need an account.
We may add, change or remove features, or pause the site for maintenance, at any time. Because it’s a free service, we can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors.
3. Not financial advice
Everything on the site, including results, savings ideas, health scores, growth projections, debt-free dates and articles, is general information for education only. It is not financial, investment, tax, legal or debt advice, and it doesn’t take your full circumstances into account. Nothing on the site is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any financial product.
Before making important money decisions, such as taking on or repaying debt, investing, or changing insurance, speak to a qualified, licensed financial adviser, accountant or tax professional. If you’re struggling with debt, free and confidential debt advice services are available in many countries.
4. Estimates and accuracy
Results are only as good as the numbers you enter and the assumptions behind them. In particular:
- savings percentages are typical estimates, and what you can actually save depends on your providers, location, prices and habits;
- growth projections assume a steady return compounded monthly and ignore taxes and fees, while real investments go up and down and can lose value;
- “typical” household amounts are rough guides, and for some currencies they are based on US figures;
- the site doesn’t convert between currencies or use live interest or exchange rates.
We work hard to keep the maths correct, but we don’t guarantee that every result, figure or tip is complete, accurate or up to date. Please check anything important yourself. If you spot a mistake, tell us and we’ll look into it.
5. Your data and backups
Your budget is stored only in your browser on your device. We don’t have a copy, so we can’t recover it if it’s lost. Clearing your browser data, using a private window, or switching device or browser can remove it. Use Download backup to keep a copy. You are responsible for the share links and backup files you create and who you give them to.
6. Fair use
You may use the site for your own personal or household budgeting, and you may share links to it. You agree not to:
- copy, republish, sell or frame the site or its content as your own, or remove our notices;
- scrape the site in bulk, or overload, attack, probe or interfere with it or its security;
- upload or send anything harmful, such as malware, or use the site or contact form for spam, abuse or anything unlawful;
- use the site to give paid advice to others in a way that suggests we endorse it.
We may block access for anyone who breaks these rules.
7. Our content
The site’s design, text, calculations, graphics and code belong to us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. You may print or save your own results and the plan you make for personal use. Short quotes with a link back to the site are welcome. For anything else, please ask us first.
8. Ads and other websites
The site shows ads, mostly served by Google, and may link to other websites. Ads and links are not endorsements. We don’t control other websites or the products advertised, and we aren’t responsible for their content, offers or privacy practices. Any deal you make with an advertiser is between you and them.
9. No warranty
The site is provided free, “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises or warranties of any kind, express or implied, including that the site will be accurate, reliable, uninterrupted, secure or fit for a particular purpose.
10. Limits of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the site, or from relying on its results or content. This includes financial loss, lost savings or profits, lost data, and indirect or consequential loss. You use the results at your own risk and are responsible for your own financial decisions.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, such as for fraud, or removes rights you have as a consumer under the laws of the country where you live.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the country where the site’s operator is based, and its courts will deal with any dispute. If you live elsewhere, you keep the protection of any mandatory consumer laws where you live and may bring a claim in your local courts. If any part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows the latest version. If you keep using the site after a change, you accept the updated terms.
